The importance of choosing the most appropriate place or site for a plant, tree or a shrub, cannot be sidelined. Indoor and outdoor gardening needs a lot of consideration of this factor.

Indoor and outdoor gardening is never a random approach. The whole process and every effort made results in either a synchronized look or wild foliage. Every plant, tree or shrub in the garden is meant to be positioned in a particular way, at a particular spot.

Choosing a site involves careful consideration. In the case of a sapling, once it is rooted, the place becomes its position for many years. Every plant should be placed in such a way that there is enough room to grow and develop. Scrounging for space and inter-locked gardening is a slow death.

There is nothing worse than to see a specimen plant being contained unnaturally and confined to an area that defies its natural design and foliage. Keeping a plant within bounds is one thing and restricting growth is quite another. In the case of trees of various sizes, they are supposed to be the focal point of the garden. A badly-placed tree or shrub is not only a sad sight but a perfect indication of neglect and a lack of planning.

Proper placement not only enhances the decorum of the indoor or outdoor garden, but also enables the plants to thrive. In the case of an outdoor garden, the plants should never be potted or rooted too close to the house.

They rob the rooms of much light and in the case of large trees the roots are liable to damage the foundation and the underground drainage system. While in the case of an indoor garden the space constraint may be compelling, it is essential to remember that the garden needs to be planned. Instead of buying the saplings randomly, you should be mindful of the choice of plants.

In the case of an outdoor garden, the plants need to be chosen according to the area in hand. It also helps to choose plants of varying shapes and heights, to enhance the plan. Garden sites generally include the edges, the center and the spaces in between. The site would have to be checked for desired movement and seating arrangements within the space constraint. Instead of adjusting the other arrangements according to the plant spacing, you should plan the garden to adjust to the seating arrangements.
